New York City media office produces its first microdrama

The city's Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment made a five-episode vertical series about film-permitting, its first work in the format, ahead of a dedicated festival in October.

What this basis means: Reported by a named news outlet, and traceable to neither a filing, a research vendor, nor the company itself.

New York City's Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment (MOME) produced its first microdrama, a five-episode vertical series called Permit Panic, according to TheWrap. The series follows a young filmmaker navigating the city's film permitting process and was produced by ZANE Productions and NMP Films. MOME commissioner Rafael Espinal appears in the series as himself.

No production budget or viewership figures were disclosed. The series is set to premiere ahead of the Alza Festival, scheduled for 16-18 October 2026, which has positioned itself as an early festival dedicated to the vertical-drama format.

The project is among the first instances of a US municipal government office producing content in the microdrama format, following several years of commercial and independent adoption of vertical-video storytelling.
