Austrian daily carries a $150bn vertical video claim as a market study

DerStandard reported a $150bn figure for vertical video outside China in 2026, up 41%. The number comes from an operator-authored report whose own microdrama sub-figure is about $4bn ex-China.

What this basis means: Disclosed by the company about itself, and not independently confirmed.

On 27 July DerStandard's media section quoted a forecast that the global market for vertical video series will generate revenue of $150bn outside China in 2026, up 41% ("wird 2026 ausserhalb Chinas voraussichtlich einen Umsatz von 150 Milliarden US-Dollar erzielen … plus 41 Prozent"). The figure comes from The State of Microdrama 2026, published by Holywater Tech and Owl & Co, and reached the paper by way of serialnews.com.

Three qualifications sit behind the number. Its basis is company-claimed: Holywater is an operator, not an independent research vendor. It covers an advertising-inclusive vertical video category, while the microdrama sub-figure in the same report is about $4bn ex-China. And $150bn is roughly 10.7 times Omdia's $14bn for the same year.
