Commission designates ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox under the Digital Services Act

The European Commission designated ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox as very large online platforms or search engines under the Digital Services Act on 31 August 2026.
Designation brings the systemic-risk obligations of the regime, which include assessing and mitigating risks to the physical and mental well-being of minors, alongside transparency and data-access duties. The designated services have until January 2027 to comply.
Roblox is the designation of most relevance to this field, as a service with a large minor user base subject to duties framed around minors' well-being rather than around content type. It indicates the platform characteristics that trigger designation.
No vertical-drama or microdrama service is designated under the regime, and no enforcement action under the Act has been taken against one. The designation announcement was the only Digital Services Act item the Commission published in the last week of August.
