The online audiovisual department of China's National Radio and Television Administration published a readout on 1 September 2026 of the second coordination meeting for its premium microdrama production and distribution programme. The meeting was held on 27 August.
According to the readout, seventeen provincial-level broadcasting authorities have committed fiscal funding, and the annual plan now covers more than 500 supported premium microdrama projects. Key platforms hold close to 600 further projects in reserve. The administration's own first support tranche comprised 16 projects; it describes a second tranche as broader in subject matter and higher in overall quality.
The figures are project counts. No monetary amount was disclosed, in renminbi or otherwise.
More than 30 platform organisations and around 190 people attended. Named participants included Hongguo, Mango TV, iQIYI, Youku, Kuaishou, Dianzhong, Jiuzhou and Rongliang. Broadcasting authorities in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Shandong presented provincial support practice.
The readout instructs provincial bureaus to carry territorial responsibility, platforms to strengthen internal review, and producers to tighten script and production control. It refers to the strengths of horizontal and vertical microdrama together, rather than to vertical alone.
