iiMedia puts China's 2025 microdrama market at RMB 67.79bn, below the regulator's figure
The research firm's consumer trends report gives a 2025 market size roughly a third smaller than the figure China's broadcasting regulator gave at a State Council briefing the same day.
What this basis means: Third-party research vendor estimate. The vendor is named wherever the source identifies it.
iiMedia Research published a 2026-2027 consumer trends report on China's film and television sector on 17 September 2026. It puts the Chinese microdrama market at RMB 940m in 2020, rising to RMB 67.79bn in 2025, and forecasts RMB 150.59bn by 2030.
The 2025 figure sits materially below the one given by the National Radio and Television Administration. At a State Council Information Office briefing on the same day, Wang Xiaoliang, director-general of the regulator's Network Audiovisual Programme Management Department, said the 2025 market exceeded RMB 100bn.
Neither source states the scope it is measuring, so the gap cannot be attributed to a difference between, for example, platform revenue, consumer spending and total industry turnover.
