TikTok's addictive-design findings date from February, minors case is separate
Commission preliminary findings on addictive design were issued on 6 February 2026. A separate step on minors' account protection was logged in July. The two rest on different legal theories.
What this basis means: Regulatory filing, government body, court or industry association.
The European Commission's preliminary findings against TikTok on addictive design are dated 6 February 2026 and were set out in press release IP/26/312, published the same day.
A second matter is recorded separately. The Commission's supervision register for very large online platforms logged a step on 24 July 2026 concerning the protection of minors' accounts. That is a different legal theory, not a later stage of the addictive-design case.
The distinction changes how the Digital Services Act timeline reads for the platform. The addictive-design limb has stood at preliminary-findings stage since February. It is not an escalation dating from July.
