FlareFlow posts a 60% net margin on an entity with negative net assets
COL Group's half-year report puts its wholly owned microdrama platform at RMB 253m revenue and RMB 152m net profit. The same filing shows net assets of minus RMB 305m and describes the platform as having reached monthly operating break-even.
What this basis means: Regulatory filing, government body, court or industry association.
FlareFlow, the microdrama platform wholly owned by COL Group, recorded revenue of RMB 252.7m and net profit of RMB 152.4m in the first half of 2026, a net margin of 60.3%, according to the group's half-year report filed through cninfo.
The comparison is with a 2025 financial year in which the platform turned over RMB 352.5m and made an operating loss of RMB 469.4m.
The same filing shows FlareFlow's net assets at 30 June 2026 at minus RMB 305.2m, against minus RMB 471.1m at the end of 2025. The margin therefore reflects the phasing of costs across periods rather than an accumulated position.
The research firm DataEye, in a 26 August note reading across the filing, said the margin was most likely an artefact of prior-year spending converting into current-year profit, together with reduced current-period spending and lower AI production costs.
On profitability the filing's own language is narrower than the figure suggests: it states that the platform performed ahead of expectations and reached monthly operating break-even ahead of schedule. A statement attributed in the same DataEye note to FlareFlow chief executive James Wang, that the platform became profitable in the second quarter of 2026, comes from an interview and is not in the filing.
The filing puts cumulative registered users above 52m across more than 200 countries and territories, and cumulative titles at close to 7,000, of which more than 10% are AI-produced.
