MFG Baden-Württemberg, the film funder of the German state, announced on 28 September 2026 that it would support 26 film and series projects with about €3.64m. The list included "Black Forest Royale", which the funder described as a vertical drama, with about €127,000. MFG placed it under new audiovisual storytelling formats.
The series is written and directed by Nina Gwyn and produced by Black Forest Studios in Kirchzarten. It follows a Californian teenager who is drawn into the intrigues of a German aristocratic family after his mother marries into it.
C21Media reported on 11 October that the award is €127,084 (US$142,000) in production funding. The studio's chief executive, Sebastian Weiland, told the outlet the decision reflected the funder's willingness to back new formats early. The studio said its own platform, Snaxx, is expected to launch next month.
