The9 Limited, listed on Nasdaq since 2004 and headquartered in Shanghai, announced on 11 February 2026 that Shanghai The9 Information Technology Co., Ltd. had entered a definitive cooperation agreement with Chengdu Lumosi Network Technology Co., Ltd. to launch an AI-powered short drama and an AI-assisted interactive movie game.

The projects are based on the TVB drama The Greed of Man, first broadcast in 1992. Shanghai The9 holds the exclusive mobile game development and publishing licence for the series; TVB produced and owns the original. The company states that it has begun developing short-drama formats and interactive movie-game concepts inspired by the series within the scope of its existing authorised rights. That characterisation of licence scope is the company's own. The stated workstreams are short-drama format development, AI-enhanced script iteration and scene generation, AI-driven interactive storytelling, and hybrid interactive movie-game prototypes. Gary Gao, chief operating officer, said generative video technology is reshaping the economics of scripted drama production.

The company repeated the disclosure in the business section of a Form F-3/A shelf registration statement filed on 20 July 2026. No title, episode count, launch date or budget has been disclosed. The9 describes its businesses as online games operation, Bitcoin mining and AI-driven drug discovery investment. The same F-3/A discloses that cooperation agreements with Zhejiang Huanyu, Tongze and JiTuo were terminated during 2025 for failure to meet annual operational targets.
