Cineverse steps back from aTwist to a passive minority stake
On its Q4 FY26 call the CFO said the company would rather sell picks and shovels than join an arms race in which Asian platforms spend about $1m a day on marketing.
What this basis means: Disclosed by the company about itself, and not independently confirmed.
Cineverse has retreated from aTwist to a passive minority stake. On the company's fourth-quarter FY26 earnings call, its chief financial officer said Cineverse would rather be "selling picks & shovels" than compete in an "arms race" in which Asian platforms spend around $1m a day on marketing. Deadline reported the remarks.
It is the second pullback by a Western operator from direct vertical-platform ownership in two weeks. The marketing figure is the CFO's characterisation of competitors' spending, not a number disclosed by the platforms concerned.
