Microdrama funding tracker: vertical drama investment rounds

Vertical drama funding in 2026 includes Holywater's $22m Series A for My Drama, Idilio's seed, reported at $5.5m and filed by iQSTEL at $5m, and GammaTime's undisclosed Series A with Versant Media. Shortical's $100m from PvX Partners is non-equity user-acquisition financing, and the largest sums, such as Kling AI's roughly $3.0bn, went to adjacent AI-video companies.

Microdrama funding rounds, newest first

The table lists disclosed rounds, stakes and financings at microdrama apps and producers, newest first. Amounts are as disclosed or reported; "undisclosed" means no figure was published. Rounds that were sought rather than closed are marked as such, and non-equity financing is identified because it implies no valuation. The full dataset, including adjacent rows, is in the funding and deals table.

Established media companies took part in several 2026 deals. Versant Media (Comcast/NBCUniversal) took a minority stake in GammaTime's Series A on 2 June 2026; the Indian film studio Yash Raj Films made a strategic equity investment in Rusk Media on 29 June 2026; and the French broadcaster M6 Group was named among the backers of Sweetz's seed round of more than €1m, announced on 3 September 2026.

The most recent entries are not rounds in the usual sense. Korai Flix, a Seoul-based platform offering AI short dramas and AI companion avatars, agreed a SPAC merger valuing it at $3.5bn on a pre-money equity basis, and Minivela took what it called a major ownership stake in the Latin American producer Red Minds Films, without disclosing size, price or valuation.

What counts as a microdrama funding round

Several of the largest figures attached to microdrama companies are not equity rounds. Shortical's $100m from PvX Partners, dated 1 July 2026, is a user-acquisition credit line, with repayments tied to cohort performance and cash generation; it implies no valuation. PvX also provided $14m of non-dilutive user-acquisition financing to Luni's Shorts in June 2026, and StoReel's $34m combines seed money with user-acquisition funding.

Other figures describe rounds that were sought rather than closed. DramaBox was reported on 8–9 January 2026 to be seeking up to $100m; no completed round has been confirmed, and accounts of a closed $100m raise at about a $500m valuation trace back to an aggregator page. Shorta was reported in about April 2026 to be seeking about $20m. In AI video, Higgsfield AI was reported by The Information and TechFundingNews in July 2026 to be in talks to raise $300m to $500m at a $5bn pre-money valuation.

Revenue targets are separate again. Shortical's founders told TheWrap the company expects to reach $100m in revenue by the end of 2026, a company claim unrelated to the PvX facility.

Adjacent capital: AI video and production tools

The largest disclosed rounds are in AI video and production tools rather than at microdrama apps. Kuaishou's HKEX filing of 2 July 2026 set a strategic equity investment in Kling AI, its AI-video model, at RMB 13.8236bn plus RMB 5.2235bn, capped at RMB 20.4471bn, or about $3.0bn, for 16.67%, implying a post-money valuation of about $18bn. Reports of a round of roughly $420m came from reading 30亿美元 as renminbi; the filing supports the dollar reading.

In July 2026, Shengshu raised $500m, PixVerse $439m, Zhixiang RMB 1.5bn and Fish Audio $52m, and ITjuzi put July's top four rounds above RMB 26.2bn (about $3.6bn). In China's AI short-drama tool layer, Evoken, the parent of LiblibAI, raised about $300m in a Series B+ at a valuation above $2bn, Yicai Global reported. AniShort and CreativeFitting raised rounds dated 9 to 12 June 2026, PEdaily reported. These are tool and model companies rather than consumer microdrama apps; how the tools are used is covered in AI in microdramas.

Strategic investors in microdrama

Established media and games companies have taken positions in the category. The Walt Disney Company took DramaBox into its Disney Accelerator 2025 cohort on 28 July 2025, with investment capital and mentorship but no disclosed equity stake or valuation; Disney Publishing said it was in discussions to adapt young-adult novels into microdramas, which is exploratory rather than signed. Krafton led Vigloo's strategic round of about $86–89m in September 2024 and joined Kuku TV's Series C. Fox has backed Holywater.

Japanese media, advertising and games groups back local apps: Nippon TV in Gokko, Dentsu Ventures and Sega Sammy in BUMP, and Sony Innovation Fund in FLASH. Public film funding has reached the format in Germany: MFG Baden-Württemberg, the state's film funder, awarded about €127,000 to Black Forest Studios' vertical drama Black Forest Royale, announced on 28 September 2026.

Ownership of the main apps is set out in who owns microdrama apps.
