Kuku said to be building a 1,000-person AI content unit ahead of an Indian IPO

What this basis means: Reported by a named news outlet, and traceable to neither a filing, a research vendor, nor the company itself.

Kuku, the Indian company behind the Kuku FM audio service and the Kuku TV microdrama app, is assembling an AI-led content production unit of about 1,000 people in Mumbai, of whom roughly 200 have been hired, according to Entrackr, citing people familiar with the matter. Kuku declined to comment.

The same report puts the company's revenue above Rs 1,400 crore for the financial year 2026, against Rs 240 crore the year before. It attributes to the same sources a production cost of under $100 a minute for microdrama, compared with over $150 in China, and a working assumption that one person can produce around 20 minutes of usable video a day.

Kuku filed a draft red herring prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Board of India confidentially in June 2026 for an issue of Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 3,500 crore. The Rs 3,500 crore figure now attached to the listing is the top of that band rather than a settled size. The company has raised more than $150m to date from investors including Fundamentum, Krafton, Vertex Ventures, Granite Asia and IFC. None of the financial figures in the report is drawn from a filing, a research vendor or a company statement.
