Character.AI enters microdrama with c.ai Series
The chatbot platform launched an in-house vertical-drama studio on 9 July: three shows of ten episodes each, freemium, with post-episode chat with the AI characters.
What this basis means: Disclosed by the company about itself, and not independently confirmed.
Character.AI, the consumer AI chat platform with more than 100m downloads, launched an in-house vertical-drama studio, c.ai Series, on 9 July 2026. The opening slate is three shows of ten episodes each, distributed on a freemium basis.
Its distinguishing feature is interactive rather than editorial: after an episode, viewers can chat or role-play with its AI characters on the same platform.
It is the first entry into the category by a large consumer technology company outside China that is neither a traditional studio nor a broadcaster, and adds a class of comparable alongside the broadcaster-goes-vertical and telco-owned patterns already visible. The download figure and the slate are company-claimed.
