German trade report finds brand budgets are the main funding route for microdrama
MikroDrama.de surveyed the German cases on 3 September and found brand-funded productions dominant, with no domestic platform of scale and no established coin or paywall model in the market.
What this basis means: Reported by a named news outlet, and traceable to neither a filing, a research vendor, nor the company itself.
German microdrama production is financed largely by brand budgets, the trade site MikroDrama.de reported on 3 September 2026, in a survey of the cases so far. It attributes this to the absence of a German platform of scale and of an established coin or paywall model, and describes public broadcasters as less likely to commission in the near term after ARD's Between the Beats underperformed.
The report names Aminho, The Challenge, produced in January 2026 and paid for by Skechers, as the first German microdrama funded by a brand from the outset. It was initiated by Kai Fischer, head of Constantin Creators, ran to 20 episodes and reached 1.9m cumulative views, according to the producers.
Other cases named include Young Hearts, made by Moonvibe in 2022 without a brand partner, which Dertour joined afterwards for branded specials; Die Neusparer for Sparkasse by Scholz & Friends; and Deutsche Bahn's Boah. Bahn. All viewing figures in the report are supplied by the producers or agencies involved, with no third-party measurement named.
The report also gives the first brand partners for Le Pitt's Buehnchen studio in Cologne as the breweries Gaffel and Muehlen Koelsch and the water brand Viva con Aqua, and describes a Hamburg miniseries, Social First, carrying an unpaid Fritz-Kola placement.
