TikTok and Singapore's IMDA launch microdrama training programme
Media professionals from 20 accredited Singapore companies will be trained to produce 50 to 100 microdrama episodes, in live-action and AI-animation tracks.
What this basis means: Regulatory filing, government body, court or industry association.
TikTok and Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) announced a microdrama training programme on 1 October 2026. The two organisations issued a joint media release; C21Media, Mothership.SG and Xinhua also reported it.
Professionals from 20 accredited media companies will take part initially, with scope for a wider pool in future editions. Over six to nine months, participants will receive mentorships, workshops and masterclasses covering vertical production, shot design, cliffhanger structure and what the partners call responsible use of technology, including AI. The stated aim is to take projects from concept to market, with each project developing 50 to 100 episodes of one to three minutes.
There are two tracks: live action, which may be supplemented with AI-generated content, and AI-enabled animation, which uses tools including ByteDance's Seedance 2.5. The release places the programme within IMDA's Digital Content and Capability Development programme, launched earlier in 2026. No funding amount was disclosed.
Yvonne Tang, Assistant Chief Executive of IMDA's Media Industry Group, said the partnership would equip local professionals to create Singapore-made microdrama for global audiences.
