ByteDance is reported to be running a paid microdrama app, LimeShorts
Trade press describes LimeShorts replacing the web-novel app Mytopia, priced at $20 a week or $200 a year, with pay-per-episode coins as an alternative. ByteDance has made no statement about the app.
What this basis means: Reported by a named news outlet, and traceable to neither a filing, a research vendor, nor the company itself.
Trade press has reported a new paid ByteDance microdrama app called LimeShorts, which replaces the company's earlier web-novel app Mytopia. TechNode carried the report, citing IT Home; Tubefilter and the Further & Better weekend digest followed.
The app carries vertical dramas of one to five minutes in comedy, romance and mystery, currently licensed from third parties rather than produced in-house. Full access is priced at $20 a week or $200 a year, with pay-per-episode purchase through in-app coins as an alternative.
It runs alongside ByteDance's existing microdrama apps: Melolo internationally, which is free with advertising and also sells coins and a $15 weekly pass, and PineDrama in the United States and Brazil, which opened free and has begun testing advertising and coins.
The account rests on trade press reporting; neither ByteDance nor TikTok has made a statement about the app.
