Microdramas on Peacock, Disney+, TikTok, YouTube and Netflix

Most large Western streamers have added vertical feeds of catalogue clips rather than paid microdrama: Disney+ Verts, Netflix Clips, Prime Video Clips and an HBO Max Shorts test. Peacock carries Bravo vertical originals and is reported to license ReelShort titles. ByteDance runs dedicated apps, including TikTok's PineDrama, and YouTube added Shorts series in September 2026.

Do Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video have microdramas?

Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max have each added a vertical feed, and Peacock has run one since 13 March 2026. The Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max feeds carry clips cut from existing catalogue and monetise indirectly (HBO Max Shorts). As of 2 August 2026, none of the incumbent US streamers ran a coin-based, per-episode paywall of the kind used by ReelShort and DramaBox.

Amazon added on-demand news clips to Prime Video in the United States on 14 September 2026, a separate product from Clips that does not extend into commissioned or licensed vertical series (Prime Video news clips).

Disney has gone a step further than a feed. Locker Diaries, its microdrama pilot, launched in the United States in February 2026 as an original 11-part vertical series drawing on the Zombies and Descendants franchises; Disney has disclosed no audience figures. Disney also selected DramaBox for its Disney Accelerator 2025 cohort, with undisclosed investment and no disclosed equity stake (funding table).

Peacock, NBCUniversal, Paramount and Fox

Peacock carries original vertical drama. Bravo's first vertical microdrama for smartphones, Campus Confidential: Miami, was released on Peacock in June 2026. Peacock is reported to have commissioned two Bravo-branded titles, Salon Confessionals and Campus Confidential: Miami, of roughly 60 episodes of 60 to 90 seconds each and exclusive to the app, and to have licensed a package from ReelShort. Both points rest on trade reporting rather than a primary document (Peacock commissions).

NBC's satire Who Billionaire? Me Billionaire, from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, debuted on 27 July 2026 and returned for a 12-episode second season on 27 September, released on Peacock and the show's social platforms. The Tonight Show said the first season drew 27 million viewers without defining the measure (Tonight Show season two). Versant Media (Comcast/NBCU) took a minority stake in the microdrama app GammaTime on 2 June 2026, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Paramount+ was reported by The Desk on 24 July 2026 to be testing vertical microdrama. BET, part of Paramount, scheduled aTwist's Her Baby to premiere on linear television on 7 October 2026, with a vertical release on aTwist to follow (BET and aTwist). Comedy Central and The Daily Show announced their first microdrama on 21 July 2026.

On 13 October 2026 Fox Entertainment signed a first-look deal with Kevin Hart's Hartbeat covering 25 live-action vertical titles hosted on Holywater's My Drama, Deadline reported (Fox and Hartbeat). Microhouse Films launched on 7 July 2026 with Lifetime's first microdrama, Tides of Temptation.

What is TikTok doing with microdramas?

TikTok's owner ByteDance runs standalone microdrama apps both outside and inside China. PineDrama, TikTok's standalone short-drama app, soft-launched in the United States and Brazil in January 2026 with one-minute episodes licensed from ShortMax, Dreame and Stardust. It opened free and ad-free and has since begun testing advertising and coins. Sensor Tower figures published on 19 September 2026 by 娱乐资本论 on The Paper put it past 100m cumulative downloads, with about 7m daily active users (estimate) (PineDrama passes 100m). In Owl & Co.'s Q3 2026 tracking of 20 top platforms outside China, PineDrama accounted for more than half of all microdrama views.

Melolo, launched in November 2024, is ByteDance's app for South-East Asia, run from Singapore through its Poligon subsidiary; it combines free viewing with advertising, coins and a $15 weekly pass. Trade press reported in July 2026 a paid ByteDance app, LimeShorts, priced at $20 a week or $200 a year; the account rests on trade reporting rather than a company statement. In China ByteDance owns Hongguo, which QuestMobile put at 356m monthly active users in May 2026 (estimate).

Inside TikTok itself, the company introduced Mini Dramas, a branded product for advertisers, on 1 July 2026, and services such as RisingJoy's RJOY and Mansa distribute series inside TikTok Minis. Hoorae Media's Screen Time has drawn about 580 million views across TikTok and PineDrama, according to TikTok (TikTok and Made By Us). TikTok reported $82m of its own short-drama revenue for January to June 2026, a company figure published via DataEye (market table).

YouTube, Meta and Character.AI

YouTube has served as distribution for microdrama operators, which use Shorts and the YouTube Partner Programme's advertising revenue share. On 23 September 2026 it announced Shorts series, which lets creators structure Shorts into seasons and episodes. YouTube said microdramas on the platform passed 6.5bn views in the first half of 2026, with watch time up more than 50% year on year and views on TV screens up more than 90% (company). It introduced no new paywall; creators seeking subscriptions can use channel memberships (YouTube Shorts series).

Meta has tested Series, which groups Reels into episodes, during 2026; it is creator tooling rather than a Meta originals business. Character.AI launched an in-house studio, c.ai Series, on 9 July 2026 with three AI-produced shows of ten episodes each. The first eight episodes are free and the last two paywalled, and viewers can chat with the characters after each episode.

Which broadcasters make vertical dramas?

European broadcasters have mostly commissioned vertical drama for TikTok and other social platforms rather than for apps of their own. RTVE is converting its youth platform Playz into a vertical app, and Mediaset España carries licensed Turkish verticals inside its existing Mediaset Infinity app. ARD plans a young-adult vertical service, 3 Minuten, for 2027 (youth brands go vertical). Coverage of the German market is in microdramas in Germany, and of Europe in microdramas in Europe.
